Now Is the
    Time to Shape Up!

         Health experts and numerous studies
constantly tell us how important it is to in shape and take care of our
physical bodies. But we aren’t motivated
by the experts and all the research to make life changing decisions. Rather, research shows people change when
they get a wake up call from one of two sources:

·  A physician who has given them a  life or death diagnosis and prognosis;

· Motivation from themselves.

Let me tell you the story about a woman
who made a life changing decision that not only dramatically changed her
physical, mental and emotional health and well-being, but positively impacted
    her children’s lives as well.

Vicky was in an Expect
The Best seminars that I did for her company and she was inspired by my
message that “You can either achieve
excellence or make excuses but you can’t do both.” Again and again she heard that we are
responsible for the results in our lives – good or bad – and it’s up to us to
take responsibility for making our life better.

When Vicky left that seminar she
decided once and for all no more excuses. It was time for her to shape up - not just for herself but as an example
for her two teenage daughters. She was
    passionate and determined to succeed.

The next day she began a simple
but extreme effective system of eating healthy foods in moderation and
    exercising regularly. She drank water
instead of sodas and weighed herself every Thursday. In the evening she went for walks with her
daughters and cherished the time they spent together. The pounds came off slowly but they came off
and Vicky’s confidence soared and her commitment deepened as she looked and
    felt better.

Six months later when I saw Vicky
again I didn’t recognize her. She had
lost seventy-five pounds and had really shaped up. She told me she was leading a cycling spin
class three days a week before she went to work. She also had much more energy and stamina in
the evening and loved the time with her daughters instead of sitting on the
couch and eating snacks. Her daughters
had also become much more active and they looked better and had better
    self-images.

So what’s my point! Simple. Maybe now is time for you to … SHAPE
    UP!

If you’re serious about getting
into shape here’s a life system that works for me.

1. Eat
healthy and nutritious foods in moderation. More fruits and vegetables.

2. Do
an aerobic exercise you like four times a week for at least thirty minutes.

3. Do
resistance/weight training two to three times a week.

4. Drink
at least eight glasses of water a day.

5. Get
off the couch and away from the computer and go for a walk.

6. Read
books that will help you get into shape and stay healthy.

You have probably heard that
advice before right? But are you doing
it? Probably not because most of us “know what to do but we don’t always do what
    we know.”

Start now and motivate yourself
instead of waiting until you have some life threatening challenge you have to
    deal with.

The choice is yours … “You can either achieve excellence or make
excuses, but you can’t do both.”

Now Is the Time to Shape Up!

Live with an “Attitude of Gratitude”

It’s November and the Holiday Season is upon us. For me this is the time of the year to stop
and appreciate all the wonderful blessings in my life and to thank God I have
    them.

Every morning when I get up, I thank God I’m alive after two
cancer battles. I thank God I can still
smile and my face is looking pretty good after three surgeries. And finally I thank God I still have my voice
and I can use it doing what I love to do – speaking to people both in my
business and in my personal life. During
the day I thank God for my beautiful wife Josie and the wonderful family and
friends we have and the times we spend with them.

Do I have challenges in my life? You bet! And some days they can seem almost overwhelming. But I’ve discovered that the old saying,
“This too shall pass” is confirmed more and more the older I get, especially
the more I give “THANKS” for all the blessings in my life.

This Month’s Action Step

For the rest of the holiday season, every day take time to
thank God for at least three blessings you have in your life. Every day find at least three people or
things that you are grateful for and spend a few moments appreciating
them. Go ahead … try it … and you’ll
discover as I did, that your life will be much more fun and fulfilling!

Each newsletter I want to recommend a book that I think is
    worth your time and money.

A Whole New Mind by Daniel H. Pink is this month’s recommended
    read.

This extremely interesting and insightful book focuses on
how to effectively use both the left side and right side of your brain. Drawing on research from around the advanced
world, Daniel Pink outlines six human abilities that are essential for personal
and professional success and fulfillment and reveals how to master them. A Whole New Mind explains why
dynamic and progressive individuals and organizations will succeed in the
twenty-first century by capitalizing on both the logical and pragmatic left
brain thinking in concert with the visionary and creative right side.

It’s fascinating and gives you a new way to look at your
career, family and personal life. I hope
    you enjoy it.
