Expect The Best in 2007!

January 1, 2007 is right around the corner and I want to ask you: what are your expectations for next year?  Are you expecting the best in your career?  Your family and relationships?  Your personal life?

Now is the time to decide exactly what you want to achieve or accomplish and why you want it.  You can’t hit a target if you don’t know what it is and you can’t ask other people to help you if you can’t clearly communicate what you want and why.

I’m challenging you to apply my principle of Expect The Best and take responsibility for getting itUse Four Driving Questions to help you become more focused, more passionate, more effective and more committed to achieving your 2007 goals.

Question # 1: What is it you want to achieve?

Describe exactly what you want as if it’s already reality.  Create a crystal, clear Picture of Success and vividly imagine it as if it’s already accomplished.  Incredible momentum is created when you focus on the positive expectation of what you want.  Expect the Best and see and feel and imagine it as if you have already achieved it.

Question # 2: Why do you want to achieve it?

Answering this question “ignites the passion you need to achieve a goal.  Real motivation comes from within and most people can’t get motivated to reach a goal because they haven’t determined why it’s so important to them.

With the first two questions you have used the creative and visionary right side of your brain.  Now the logical and pragmatic left side of your brain needs to kicks in.

Question # 3: How will you achieve it?

Even though you know what you want to achieve and why, you must take action to get it.  Dreams without action are worthless!  Taking action produces results.

In going after your goal though, you will soon discover that trial and error, mistakes and missteps are part of the process along the way.  That’s when you need the final question.

Question # 4: What if you run into obstacles, setbacks or problems?

Even though you know what you want, why you want it and how you will get it, you will run into obstacles, setbacks and problems.  Count on it!  Perseverance and commitment are the critical factors in producing positive results despite negative challenges.

What are your expectations for 2007 and how are you going to achieve them?

“Life is a series of questions

and it’s up to us to live the answers.”

This Month’s Action Step

Take the first step and sit down right now and identify one goal you want to achieve and answer the Driving Questions for that goal.  Every day for the rest of the holiday season, spend a few minutes visualizing your end result, editing your plan and deciding what action you need to make it happen.  Go ahead … start now because …

“A journey of a thousand miles

begins with a single step.”

- Lao-Tzu

OK Coté Recommended Read

Each newsletter I recommend a book that I think is worth your time and money.

The Power of Positive Thinking by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale is this month’s recommended read.  This is a classic inspirational bestseller with over 5 million copies in print and it should be recommended reading for everyone.

Every year in November and December I re-read The Power of Positive Thinking because it recharges my mental and emotional batteries and reenergizes my spirit.  Year after year I’m amazed at how much I get out of this short and simple little book.

Dr. Peale’s is not a bunch of rah, rah, feel good junk!  It is full of time tested techniques to help you believe in yourself and your abilities no matter what obstacles, setback or problems you have are dealing with or how tough life may seem.

In my life I have had more than my share of tough times in school, in business, in relationships, health, and finances.  During those challenges I needed to fill my mind with positive and optimistic thoughts, strategies and action steps to help me get up, get going and get through whatever problem I was facing.  The Power of Positive Thinking can do that for you too.

During this Holiday Season do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of The Power of Positive Thinking and read it.  You will be glad you did!

“We must constantly build dykes of courage

to hold back the flood of fear.”

- Martin Luther King Jr.
