Chuck and his buddy Alex Oden at Lance Armstrong's Ride for the Roses Fundraiser
Hi Everyone!

This is a quick note to update you on my recent trip to Austin, Texas to spend the weekend with Lance Armstrong for his Ride for the Roses Fundraiser.

On Friday, April 12th I arrived in Austin and spent the late afternoon in a photo and autograph session with Lance. He is a down to earth guy who is very confident but unassuming and definitely a real person. I had a chance to tell him how much of an inspiration he was to me when I went through my cancer battle and how I now felt an obligation to help others fight this insidious disease. That's the same feeling he has after coming through his battle. My opinion is that he's not only a world class athlete, he's also a remarkable human being!

The rest of the weekend was spent doing a 5K race on Saturday morning followed by a 24 mile bike ride. Sunday was a 44 mile bike ride followed up a Sunday night appreciation Bar BQ party. We were also treated to a fifteen minute impromptu comedy show by Robin Williams who is a good friend and supporter of Lance. What a funny guy! All in all, it was an extremely well organized and coordinated weekend!

Before and during the weekend we raised over $2,200,000 for cancer survivors programs! I am also proud to say that 80% of the money collected goes to the programs and only 20% to fundraising and administration. That's an excellent use of the dollars and Lance and the Lance Armstrong Foundation are committed to keeping it that way.

Next year I will be part of his fundraising efforts because I am 100% in support of what he is doing and how he is doing it. So, please be prepared for my coming to you folks to ask you to give to help such a worthy cause. I really appreciate it!

Meeting Lance was fabulous but the highlight of my weekend was meeting a young man named Alex Oden. Alex is fourteen years old and battled pediatric testicular cancer for almost two years. He's had seven surgeries, chemotherapy and other treatments during that time but ... the cancer is in remission and he is doing great. Alex has the heart and courage of a lion and rode me into the ground on the 44 mile bike ride. He was such a delight to meet and draw energy and strength from because he has a "refuse to lose" attitude that is contagious! I may be a motivational speaker but Alex gave me a ton of ideas and a fantastic story.

All in all, the weekend was a dream come true and I want to say THANK YOU to all of you who helped make it happen! I really appreciate all of your support both financially and emotionally and I am looking forward to doing it again next year. Please let me know if you need any other information about the weekend or the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

My best wishes to everyone for a healthy, happy and prosperous year!

Chuck
